Identification method of Xanthan gum purity
At present, some enterprises have poor process control, resulting in a large amount of starch remaining in the finished xanthan gum. In order to improve the viscosity and reduce the cost, guar gum and other components are added to the xanthan gum. We suggest the following methods for identification:
1. Identification of guar gum in xanthan gum
Mix xanthan gum into 1% aqueous solution, fully soak and stir it, observe the solution state, detect the viscosity, and then add 1% borax. The xanthan gum solution with guar gum will form clusters, and the viscosity will increase greatly when detecting the viscosity.
2. Identification method of added or residual starch in xanthan gum
After mixing a large amount of iodine into the starch solution or 4% starch solution, it indicates that the residual solution is not fully yellow, and then a large amount of iodine is added into the fermentation solution, which indicates that the residual solution becomes yellow, and then a large amount of iodine is added into the starch solution or 4% starch solution.
